This dairy free strawberry ice cream is bursting with bright strawberry flavor and is totally free of refined sugars!  Slathered in a luscious paleo dark chocolate fudge sauce, this homemade ice cream is no fuss and and healthy too!

Come warmer weather, ice cream inevitably sounds good!  When I discovered how easy homemade dairy free ice cream is to make…a whole new world opened up!

My husband laments my taste in ‘old lady’ flavors like pecan ice cream.  But I can’t help it!  A tasty nutty ice cream is one of favorites!

But a fresh strawberry ice cream slathered in a rich fudgy sauce…swoon!!!!   Really strawberries in all their forms are pretty darn amazing!  I’ve been eyeing these gluten free strawberry shortcake cupcakes to try too!

Berries and chocolate are a match made in heaven (one of our favorites is this gluten free strawberry chocolate tart)!!  With this rich and creamy dairy free ice cream, you get all the sweet strawberry flavor made with only natural ingredients.

It requires almost no hands on time to make homemade ice cream…simply blend all your ingredients in a blender and voila!  Ice cream ready for your favorite ice cream maker!

Can I use homemade creamy cashew or almond milk?

Yes!  I love to make my own creamy nut milks for ice cream too. Sometimes my kids turn a nose at coconut flavored anything, so I turn to a creamy blend of raw cashews or almonds and water.

I simply blend one part raw nuts to 3 parts water.  Almond milk needs to be strained, cashew does not.

Store bought almond and nut milks will NOT work well.  Too much water.

Can I make dairy free ice cream with no ice cream maker?

Yes!  Simply pre freeze a bread loaf pan in the freezer. Then:

  • pour strawberry mixture into the frozen pan, place back in the freezer
  • for the first hour or so, stir the mixture every 15 minutes to ensure even cooling
  • continue to freeze until desired texture achieved

Additional dairy free ice cream recipes?

Once you try your hand making homemade ice cream, I think you will be hooked like us!  It’s so simple, and the flavor options are endless!  Here are couple to get you going:

  • pumpkin ice cream
  • 21 paleo ice creams (a round up)
  • healthy peanut butter ice cream

I am eager to try my hand at this peach ice cream too! And if cherries are more your jam, you should try this Black Forest ice cream!

Low carb or keto strawberry ice cream recipe?

You can easily make this a dairy free AND keto ice cream!  In place of the honey, use 1/2 cup erythritol in the ice cream.  Just be sure to blend for at least a minute to ensure the granules dissolve.  In the chocolate sauce, be sure to use my favorite low carb chocolate: Lily’s!!  It’s fair trade and totally decadent!

If your feeling extra strawberry goodness is in order, try topping this luscious ice cream with strawberry compote!
