Homemade Dairy Free Fudgesicles

These ultra creamy dairy free fudgesicles are a perfect summer treat loaded with healthy fats and no refined sugars.

Ready to freeze in about 5 minutes, this a frozen treat every momma can be happy about giving their family!!

As an added bonus, these are easily made sugar free for those who so wish!

I figure it is pretty par for the course that we are having a major heat wave…the very first of the summer….right when we start back to school!

I was beginning to think that we were going to get through a whole summer with no 90+ days, but alas, I was wrong!

As any normal northwesterner, when the mercury climbs, we think longingly of ways to cool off, and icy treats are the order of the day.

We love my dairy free strawberry popsicles, and  this dairy free chocolate chip mint ice cream, but I wanted CHOCOLATE!!

a single fudge pop with a halved avocado and fresh flowers

Popsicle molds for the dairy free fudgesicles?

I stumbled upon these reusable silicone push pops on a link a friend sent me….and I had to have a set!!

I have always found the plastic molds I have annoying…hard to clean, hard to get your popsicle out, etc.

After two batches….I have to say these molds are FANTABULOUS!! (I know that is not a word, but I really love these things!)

Avocado pudding or healthy fudge popsicles?

Once this ultra creamy and chocolaty avocado pudding is made, it is perfect for eating as is just like a delectable and rich homemade pudding.
Even better, if you chill it, it thickens a bit, upping that ultra thick and creamy mouthfeel that  is coveted!

Of course, in this post, I make this fudgesicle recipe for  filling into your popsicle molds for some incredible healthy frozen chocolate pops…so YOU decide!

Trust me…no one will have ANY idea there is avocado in there, even your kids!

The avocado sets the creaminess factor over the top….you will love every creamy, chocolaty bite!

And if you think you want to try a gluten free pudding NOT using avocado? We all need options in life!

a few chocolate pops with flowers and avocado

Using ripe avocado for these dairy free fudgesicles note:

Don’t be tempted to use old avocados with brown flesh instead of green… they leave a weird smoky aftertaste not intended or pleasant!

In fact, once you have sliced the avocado in half, smell it!  It should have very little odor at all!

Another trick:  If you flick the stem off the top of an avocado that feels perfect, you should see beautiful mint green flesh, nothing brown or discolored!

Can I use different sweetener in this healthy fudgesicles recipe?

  • I have also made this with soaked Medjool dates, and less honey (about 8 dates with 4T honey).
  • If I want it sweeter for a different crowd, I often just add drops of stevia liquid!
  • For a sugar free version, try some allulose!  Because keto fudgsicles are just as delicious!
  • Maple or date syrup can be used for a vegan version.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coconut milk I have used regular and light with no discernible difference. Half and half, or creamy nut milk also options.
  • 4-6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder I love Dagoba if you like dark chocolate, use 6 tablespoons
  • 2 small avocados ripe. About 350-400g whole avocados.
  • 1/2 cup honey to taste. Taste and decide! 1/4 cup for an extra dark flavor, more for sweeter! Date syrup, coconut nectar, or maple syrup would also work for a vegan option. And liquid allulose for a sugar free version.
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt this heightens the chocolate flavor. Optional
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract optional. Mint extract also a nice touch for my chocolate mint fans!

Instructions

  • Halve each avocado. Using a sturdy knife, firmly hack the center of the pit with the knife to lodge it in the nut, then twist to remove. Scoop out the green flesh and place in the blender or processor bowl.
  • Add in all remaining ingredients and puree the whole mixture in your blender or food processor until creamy and smooth. Feel free to add more cocoa or sweetener to suit your tastes.
  • Fill your molds, freeze, or store in the fridge for a yummy pudding!!

These are so good! I used canned coconut cream and coconut milk mixture and added a touch more honey. Also added 1.5tsp mint extract and 1/2tsp vanilla. So yummy! Filled my 6 popsicle molds with a little leftover that my son ate as pudding! He loves it too (and he has some food aversions, so extra win! Thanks for the recipe!!

I can see how creamy these are just from the pictures! They are beautiful! Do you think the recipe would work in an ice cream mashine?

YUM! Tessa, we are so on the same wavelength with frozen chocolate delights that get their creaminess from healthy ingredients. 😉 My latest recipe on my blog didn’t use avocado, but I used some last night to make egg-free cookies. Worked like a charm, but I need to tweak a bit still.

    Happy Friday the 13th! xo,
    Shirley
